A series of 3 photographs, co-authored by Abena Poku, Steve Smith and Luke Mitchell.
They are informed by worldwide statue debates, fashion photographs and look to subvert common African > European aesthetic orders and poses.
They also contribute to #PostTrash, a movement that longs for an ‘enlightened capitalism’, where artists look to recycle in ever more imaginative ways and contexts. Discarded items found in the street are used as the basis for artworks. What could have ended up as pollution or in landfill is now on a gallery wall, private collection or public space.
We see this playing out with Poku modelling the Winter Ball Gown made from material from a three piece suite dumped in a Bristol Industrial estate.
